When Marianne and Britannia meet
6 - 28 November
@ Manchester Central Library & the Alliance Française de Manchester
Signed in 1904, the Entente Cordiale brought to an end several decades of colonial rivalry between France and the UK.
This exhibition, marking the 120th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale, features extracts of great historical and symbolic significance from French and British archives, shedding unique light on the political and social repercussions of the agreement.
You will learn more about the conflicts between the United Kingdom and France at the end of the 19th century, and the negotiations and discussions that led to the appeasement of their rivalry and the historic rapprochement of these two powers.
Immerse yourself in an important moment in the relationship between France and the UK, and learn more about the French view-point on the events!
The first part of the exhibition will take place at Manchester Central Library (St Peter's Square, Manchester M2 5PD), with the final part hosted at our offices (125 Portland Street, M1 4QD). We encourage you to visit both locations to view the complete exhibition!
Exhibition curated by Charlotte Faucher (University of Bristol) and Guillaume Perissol (Institut Français du Royaume-Uni) and presented
by the Institut Français du Royaume- Uni (IFRU) in partnership with the French Ministry for Europe, the UK Foreign Affairs’
