A 16-year-old boy (Ernst Humhauer) insinuates himself into the home and family of a student in his class, and writes about it in his essays to his French teacher (Fabrice Luchini). The teacher, faced with this gifted and unconventional pupil, regains a taste for teaching, but the student's behaviour triggers a series of uncontrollable events involving the friend’s mother (Emmanuelle Seigner) and the teacher’s wife (Kristine Scott Thomas).
